WAREHOUSE SCAREHOUSE : Our First Feature Film
A Film Takes a Village…
Film is the most collaborative art form, because it requires such a wide variety of disciplines to make a single piece of art. You need Writing, Actors, Costume Designers, Choreography, Videography, Music, and Editors, just to name just a few of the many roles that need to be filled in the average film project.
In order to fulfill our mission of providing opportunities for Education, Hands-On Experience, Collaboration, and Shareable Finished Work to as many Portland creatives as possible, 4ARTSAKE has greenlit WAREHOUSE SCAREHOUSE, a Horror Comedy Feature Film Project. Through this production, we will be able to empower, elevate, and collaborate with artists across a wide variety of mediums, all while creating a piece of finished work that showcases the talents of all contributing artists, and will open the door to many more opportunities down the road.
Together, we make magic happen.
WAREHOUSE SCAREHOUSE :
WAREHOUSE SCAREHOUSE is a horror comedy that is equal parts monster movie and character-driven comedy.
Trapped in a Portland warehouse on Halloween, a group of close-knit friends must fight one of their own after he becomes possessed by an ancient evil entity. As the night goes on, friendships are challenged and new bonds are formed, all while everyone fights for their lives.
On one level, WAREHOUSE SCAREHOUSE is a survival horror film about 6 people fighting off a monster living in the body of their friend, but it’s also a movie about dating, friendship, and how just because you’re getting older doesn’t mean you’re grown.
Why This Project?
In deciding on which project we would take on as our first feature film, we considered a wide range of pitches and scripts. We landed on WAREHOUSE SCAREHOUSE for a variety of factors.
WAREHOUSE SCAREHOUSE is a very Portland movie.
Set in Portland, and with a killer soundtrack featuring all PNW musicians, this film will shine a light on our great city, and some of the amazing talented artists that reside here. For this project we will be working with, at minimum, 85% local cast and crew, always prioritizing local talent whenever possible.
Horror is an ever-green genre.
Film trends come and go, but horror is a genre with extreme resilience. Fear is a universal feeling — fear of death, fear of the unknown, fear of love lost — and so it translates across demographics, languages, and even time. Fans of the horror genre do not discriminate based filmmaker, sub-genre, or budget, but judge a film by the story, and the feelings the film creates. With a micro-budget project, created by up-and-coming artists (relative unknowns), horror gives everyone involved the best shot at success.
It is a venture that meets all the goals of 4ARTSAKE project.
Through this film, we will be able to elevate both amateur and established artists, from a wide variety of mediums, providing Education and Hands-On Experience Opportunities. This specific script incorporates Performance (acting, live music), Music (soundtrack, score), Choreography, (fight, dance), Illustration (storyboards, props, and marketing materials), Animation, Sculpture (props, special effects), Makeup, (glamour, special effects), Set Design, Costume Design, and many other roles, including roles unique to cinema such as Editing and Sound Design, which will allow us to involve a large number of local creatives, and provide Collaborative Opportunities for expression that they might not find elsewhere. Finally, there is an existing ecosystem for film that provides several unique opportunities for Exposure, including (but not limited to) Festivals, Local Screenings, Road Shows, Physical Media, and eventually Streaming.
More than anything, people love this project!
As we have been developing this project, we have been working with local artists to make sure that we’re going down the right path, and over and over again this is the project that people want to make. We have been getting buy-in of actors, animators, and local musical acts including shoegaze band As Above, electronic artist Gelatin, and cowboy punk band Heaven Skate to name just a few. And there’s more excitement around this project every day!
