Advertise in WUNK
WUNK is a new counter culture arts magazine focused on the Pacific Northwest, and distributed for FREE. The magazine features photography, fiction, poetry, comics, visual art, satire, and gonzo journalism (et cetera) from a coalition of creatives brought together by the arts nonprofit 4ARTSAKE. The purpose of this project is to shine a light on, and uplift, the many talented working-class artists in Portland and beyond who often get overlooked, undervalued, and left out of the greater conversation about art in the Pacific Northwest.
Target Audience - Counter culture art fans. Will appeal most to people who like punk, humor, and visual art.
Age Restriction - WUNK is aimed at folks 18 and up. Magazine contains adult themes and language, and occasional artistic nudity.
Magazine Specs - 8.5” x 11”, semi-gloss, full-color magazine.
Distribution - 1,500 physical copies distributed to book stores, bars, coffee shops, et cetera, throughout Portland, with some copies going beyond into other territories, and a digital PDF download available from 4artsake.org.
The Value of a FREE Magazine
On a long enough timeline, a FREE magazine has 100% “sale-through” rate, meaning every single issue will be picked up. This is great for contributing artists and advertisers alike, as there is no wasted cost in production, and every add and featured article will reach the intended audience.
Your Ad Buy Let’s Us Distribute WUNK for FREE
All revenue brought in from ad sales goes directly to the printing and distribution of the magazine. With each ad sold, we increase the number of copies in an issue’s run, and expands our distribution opportunities. Your purchase of an ad directly benefits all contributing artists by expanding their reach, and helps grow the community around Portland arts and (counter) culture.
Half-Page Ads for Issue One Start at $250
$250 Ad - For $250, you get a half-page ad designed by one of our associated artists. We have our team design your ad for 3 reasons.
Cohesion - WUNK is a counter culture art magazine, and traditional ads would stand out in a bad way. Our designers work to make your ad flow with the energy of the magazine.
Aesthetic Value - Print ads often get skipped over, and can be essentially invisible to ad-avoidant readers. We make ads that have inherent artistic value, and are fun to look at as a piece of art, slowing the viewer down to take in the work.
Experience & Opportunity - By making ads for WUNK, our artists build their portfolio of professional work, which they can leverage down the road to help them secure future work opportunities.
$400 Ad - For $400, we will publish a half-page ad that you deliver to us, as is. If you have a specific campaign that you want in our magazine, we will accommodate you, but we add a $150 fee to ad rates for publishing outside work.
These below-market-rate ad prices for a small distribution magazine reflect our gratitude to partners willing to come on board at issue one of WUNK. All business that advertise in issue one will have the opportunity to keep this low rate if they wish to advertise again in issue two.
Artists maintain ownership of the art they create for a purchased ad, and give printing rights to WUNK Magazine. If you as a business would like to use an ad created for WUNK by a contributing artist for other publications, you would first need to purchase the design from the creator / orner of the work.
Be a Distributor, and We’ll Send People Directly to You!
When you buy an ad in an issue of WUNK you have the option to become a distributor of the magazine.* For the life of the issue, we will periodically drop off copies, and then post on social media that people can come and pick them up from you. This allows us to provide extra value to our partners beyond just the ad, and actually send folks directly to your door.
* Must have a physical, open-to-the-public location to be eligible. Examples are stores, coffee shops, bars, et cetera.
